Case Study

01: Logo

The idea came from my affection for the snowshoe hare. I vividly remember the first time I skied with one of these beloved creatures. My favorite stormy day ski run was off the back of chair 5 in Mammoth toward the bottom of chair 9. The storm was productive and the snow piled up deep. I bounced through the pillows and then a hare jumped in beside me bouncing next to me through the snow. It was pure magic so close, practically jumping over my skis.

I embroidered a patch after skiing with them back east. I thought the patch would make an interesting logo with a strong personal narrative behind it. I used Adobe Capture and Illustrator to create my logo.

How to Make the Logo
  • Import photo of the patch into Adobe Capture on iPad

  • Choose ‘fill’ to clean up area around the hare

  • Select ‘erase’. Choose scissors to eliminate larger pieces.

  • Deselect scissors to use eraser tool

  • Choose ‘Simplify’ and reduce to 9 colors

  • Save

  • Capture gives options to save different patterns, shapes, brushes, etc. These are automatically uploaded to your creative cloud library

  • Open Adobe Illustrator

  • Create a new file: Logo Preset 480x480px 72ppi rgb

  • Find Libraries Tab

  • Open Shapes folder

  • Drag shape to artboard
